Sidney Carlton “Tony” Jessup, 77, of Daniels, West Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 18, 2023, following a long illness.
Sidney was born April 12, 1945, in Asheboro, North Carolina to Raymond Jessup and Margaret Davis Jessup, and was raised on a tobacco farm in Ramseur, North Carolina.  Sidney joined the U.S. Marine Corps in January 1964 and served the great country that he loved until he was honorably discharged in January 1968.  While in the Marines, Sidney was stationed in Vietnam where he was awarded several medals for his service.  Following his discharge from the Marines, Sidney lived in North Carolina before moving to West Virginia in 1971 and began his career at C&P Telephone Company where he worked as a lineman.  Sidney was promoted during his career and ultimately retired as an Engineering Supervisor for Verizon.
Sidney married his loving wife, Ardith Hope Waddell on December 23, 1967.  After 54 years of marriage, Ardith preceded Sidney in death on January 4, 2022.  Sidney was further preceded in death by his beloved parents, Raymond and Margaret Jessup, four brothers, Tommy Jessup, Johnny Jessup, Jean Jessup, and Russell Jessup, sisters, Lori (Jessup) Lambert, and Judith (Jessup) Pugh. He is survived by his daughter, Tanya S. (Jessup) Skeens, and her husband Hamilton D. Skeens of Morgantown, West Virginia, his son, Bradford R. Jessup and his wife Nancy C. (Osborne) Jessup, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, and his seven grandchildren who were the light of his life, Lauren E. (Skeens) Wright, and her husband, Willam B. Wright, Adam H. Skeens, and his wife, Amy (Lusk) Skeens, Madison (Skeens) McCourt, and her husband Zachary A. McCourt, Reagan S. Jessup, Gavin B. Jessup, Ava M. Jessup, and Paylin R. Jessup, his beloved sister, Phoebe (Jessup) Burkheart, his beloved brother, David Jessup, and his wife Joyce (Moser) Jessup, as well as many other friends and family.  
Despite many health issues, Sidney served the Lord at his home church, Daniels Missionary Baptist, as well as serving as Chaplin at the Southern Regional Jail.  If you were around Sidney for any length of time, you knew he loved his Lord, his family and his country.  
Friends may visit Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley, West Virginia, on Sunday, February 26, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.  The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Larry Lilly officiating.  The burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, West Virginia.
