Shelby Welch

Shelby L. Walker Welch, passed away on Sunday October 5, 2025. Born November 4, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Bernie Walker and Lana Walker Smith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold “Cotton” Welch and a sister, Shirley Woodrum.

Shelby is survived by her sons, Mark (Jan) of Alexandria, Virginia and Kirk(Stacy) of Roanoke, Virginia; grandchildren, Taylor, Clayton (Kayla) and Samantha; great-grandson, Nolan and sister, Sylvia McMenamin of Florida.

Shelby was a loyal teacher for the Raleigh County Board of Education retiring from Lester Elementary School. She enjoyed boating, reading, watching professional tennis and baseball and adored all children.

Shelby and Cotton had a deep appreciation for their good friends Rick Vass and Lloyd Jarrell.

A brief meet will be held at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley, WV at 10:00 a.m. Monday 10/20/25 and followed by a procession to Sunset Memorial Park for a graveside service at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, Shelby’s wishes are to make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Bowers Hospice House of Southern West Virginia.
