Robert L. Manning, 95, of Burlington, NC, formerly of Beckley, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015. Born January 28, 1920 in Orinoco, KY, he was the son of the late Howard and Nancy Marshall Manning. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Myrtle Mae Jones Manning, second wife, Geneva Plumley Manning; grandson, David Kelly; brothers, Edward, Kenneth, Melvin and Okey Manning and sisters, Willie Cox, Virginia Carmen and Jean Blevins.
Robert was a retired Mine Supervisor for Westmoreland Coal Co. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of WW II serving with 87th Infantry Division and a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
He is survived by daughters, Connie Sue Swisher and husband Alan of Gibsonville, NC, Barbara Ann Kelly and husband Charles of Middletown, VA; son, Robert Ray Manning and wife Barbara of Grant, MN; grandchildren, Alane Livingood and husband Ronald, Alice Christian and husband Bruce, Emily Newcomb and husband David, John Kelly, Holly Manning, Christopher Manning and wife Kelly; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; step-son O’Dell Plumley and wife Sue of Oak Hill, WV
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Bright and Dr. Jerry Manning officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church
