Richard Edward McDorman

Richard Edward McDorman, 75, of Beckley, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

Born January 7, 1947 in Beckley, he was the son of the late Harry and Betty Burton McDorman. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca McDorman.

Richard was a 1964 graduate of Stoco High School. He received an associates degree from Beckley college, a B.A. in Political Science and History from Morris Harvey College and, a B.S. in Mining Engineering from WVU.

He served as a captain with the U.S Army. During his military service Richard was awarded the CIB, Bronze Star, AR Com, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal. From 1971 to 1977 he served with the National Guard Special Forces receiving Jump Wings and Jump Master awards.

During his working career Richard was a coal miner, mine foreman, Federal mine Inspector and an instructor at the National Mine Academy.

Richard is survived by his wife Joyce; brother, David McDorman and wife Sandy; son, Richard McDorman, Jr; daughters, Crissy Higgins and Barbara Ellen Slotterback; step children, Heather Fox, Christina Ward, John Mitchell Fox; grandchildren, Trevor, Krissie, Hailie, Jacob, Dixie, Dalton, Olivia, Isaac, Damian, Kassandra, Elizabeth.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may visit with the family from 11:30 a.m. until service time.
