Mary Ruth Woods

Mary Ruth Woods, age 95, passed away January 2, 2023 at the Villages of Greystone, Daniels, WV, where she was a resident for 7 years. The family would like to thank the staff of Greystone and Hospice of Southern West Virginia for their care and friendship during her stay.   She was born March 17, 1927 to the late Isaiah Welch Shrader and Flora Belle Shrader.  She graduated as Valedictorian from Bramwell High School in 1946.

Mrs. Woods was a former personnel director for G. C. Murphy Company and was a member of the Calloway Heights Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Woods.  They were married for 65 years.  She was also preceded in death by brothers Richard, Lewis, Aubrey, Fred, Cecil, and Grayson Shrader; by sisters Dorothy May and Margie Cole; by son-in-law Delbert Scurlock.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Deborah Scurlock and Vickie Lickliter and husband Randy.  The grandchildren she cherished and knew her as Grandma:  Donald Scurlock and wife Angela, Danny Scurlock and Ryanne, Darin Scurlock and wife Mary, Jackie Lickliter, Randi Beth Lickliter, and Mary Katherine Ridenour and husband Jeremy; great grandchildren, Hannah Hamrick and husband George, Katilyn Scurlock, Andrew Scurlock, Eli, Sadie, and Sam Scurlock, Fynn and Wyatt Ridenour, Josie Lickliter and a great granddaughter due in June; great great grandson Henry Lee Hamrick. She is also survived by one brother, James Shrader and wife Mary of Princeton, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 18 at 11:00 am. at the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel in Beckley with the Reverend Doc Adkins officiating.  Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call on Wednesday from 10:30 – 11:00 at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, West Virginia 25801.
