Lila Lee Hill

Lila Lee (Horton) Hill, 90, of Crab Orchard, WV went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2023, after a short stay at the Bowers Hospice House.  Lila was born at home at Crab Orchard on April 21, 1932.

Lila will most be remembered by her Christian Faith, her love of family, her generosity, her humor, and hospitality.   Lila graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Beckley Community College.

Her hobbies included writing poems, feeding the wildlife, gardening, cooking, and baking, along with photography.  Lila was also known to throw massive Easter Egg hunt parties for the church youth.  She was a member of the Red Hats’ Society.  She held being a grandmother as her most precious role.

Lila married the love of her life:  Posie Allan Hill, a marriage of 70 years.  Allan gave her the nickname:  Hutchie.  They were married and resided in England for a brief time in the 1950’s before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio, and then moving to West Chester, Pennsylvania before settling in Crab Orchard.  Wherever Lila and Allan lived, they always became very involved in their church and community, and this was where Lila’s love of hosting and nurturing shined the brightest. 

Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Posie Allan Hill, her parents, William Monroe Horton, and Ocal Elizabeth Canady Horton.  Also, preceded in death by her twin sons, Dudley Allan, and Danny Calvin, who passed shortly after birth, her brother William Virgil Horton, sisters, Ocal Helen Shumate, and Janice Hope Dunlap.

Lila  is survived by her daughters, Lila Jane Hill Morhard (married to Bob Morhard and their three children, Lauren, married to Brian Lenehan and their daughter Fiona; Ryan married to Young Cynn and their sons Allan and Ellis; Robert partnered with Faye Kim), and Dawn Hill Sturgill (married to Mike Sturgill, and Dawn’s daughters Erin Bass Petty married to Guilherme Petty, and Anne Bass), and also by her brothers Donald Edward Horton and Sherman Neil Horton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service to celebrate the life of Lila Lee (Horton) Hill will be held on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley with visitation from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, and service to follow.
