LaVerna M. Mills

LaVerna Mae Mills, 88, died on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Glenwood Retirement Home in Princeton, WV. Born February 20, 1926 in Martins Ferry, OH she was the daughter of the late Raymond H. and Gladys Doughtery Wilson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Robert “Shorty” Wilson and Thomas Edward Wilson and sisters, Betty Beck and Jean Sabo.
LaVerna had a Master’s degree in elementary education and worked at two different elementary schools in Ohio. After retirement in 1987 she moved to DeLand, FL with her husband and lived there until 2011. She was a member of the Martins Ferry, OH First Baptist Church as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Ohio.
Survivors include her husband Evert Ray Mills, Sr. of Princeton; son, Evert R. Mills, Jr and wife Debbie of Beckley; grandchildren, John Mills and wife Thea of Germany, Evie Rachelle Mills of Birmingham, AL and Samuel Andrew Mills of Beckley and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vondie Cook, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove, OH. Friends may visit with the family 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Amedysis Hospice of Bluefield, 3879 Maple Acres Road, Bluefield, WV 24701.
