Kenneth Camden Martin

Kenneth Camden Martin passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with several health issues.

Kenneth was born on November 19, 1935 in Slab Fork.  He was proceeded in death by his parents, Cecil and Beulah Martin; sons David and Dwayne Martin; his brother, Bobby Martin;  andBill Sutherland, brother-in-law.

Survivors include the love of his life, Mary; granddaughter Heather Heath, grandson Drew Martin, and the two people who brightened his day the most his great-grandson Johnny Heath III and great-granddaughter Haylee Heath; daughter-in-law Teresa Martin; sister Patricia Vass, Jesse (Jimmy) Calvert; sister-in-law and husband, Thora Sutherland, sister-in-law Sheila Martin.  He also is survived by many loving friends who stopped by to visit with him, especially his best friend, Richard Lilly.  The family would like to thank Richard for all the years of friendship, loyalty and the many hours spent laughing and talking with each other.  We don’t know what we would have done without Richard.  He was so supportive, caring and dependable.

Kenneth graduated from Sophia High School.  He was a member of Sophia United Methodist Church.  Kenneth worked many years at Slab Fork Coal Company.  He later worked at Mine Tek. He worked for the Raleigh County Board of Education until he retired.

Kenneth loved being outdoors.  He used to be an avid hunter and spent many hours hunting with his sons David and Dwayne and other family members and friends.

Everyone who knew Kenneth said he always had a smile on his face or he was laughing!  His smile and laughter were contagious and always took your cares away.

We want to thank all the friends and family who stopped by, called or texted to check on Kenneth.  He was truly blessed to have so many friends and family who cared so much.

At Kenneth’s request, there will be no services.  The family will have a small remembrance ceremony at the family cemetery at the “Farm” in Virginia.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Sophia United Methodist Church.  Arrangements by Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley WV.
