Kathy Lynn Motley

Kathy Lynn Motley was born August 17, 1953, to John Ward and Clara Lee (Sweeney) Bowden.

She was the granddaughter of Roy & Mary (Ballard) Sweeney and the great-granddaughter of

Joe and Susan (Dillon) Sweeney. Kathy was born and raised in Raleigh County, West Virginia

and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley. She married Frank “Frankie”

Motley on August 12, 1978, and the two made their home in Beckley, WV.

Kathy is survived by her husband, their daughter, Ashleigh Marie Motley, and two lively young

grandsons, Myles and Matthias Walters, that she loved spending time with. Kathy is also

survived by her sister Patricia “Patty” (and husband Kenny) Hoskins, and their daughter Donna

(and husband Jeff) Abele and family, in addition to an extended family of in-laws on Kathy’s

husband’s side of the family with whom she was always close.

Kathy spent many years caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Beckley Appalachian

Hospital, Pinecrest Hospital and the Beckley Veteran's Administration Hospital from where she

retired just a few years ago. Other than spending time with family and friends, her dogs were her

favorite past time. She loved Pomeranians and had several over the years including her current

one, Prissy, who will miss her dearly.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her only son, Adrian Lee Motley

(June 24, 1981-August 13, 1981).

Kathy had endured several health issues in recent years but was never one to complain. Her

passing was very sudden and unexpected to all. The family appreciates your prayers and

condolences during this time. 

Visitation will be Friday, January 2, 2026 at noon at Calfee

Funeral Home in Beckley with a memorial service following at 1pm. with Pastor Dwayne Williams officiating.
