John William Scott, 75, of Beckley, WV, a cherished son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones after a long illness.

Born on January 9, 1951, in Stanaford, WV, John was the beloved son of the late John M. Scott and Gladys Ann Farrish. His life was marked by devotion, faith, and steadfast dedication to his family, career, and passion for life.

John was a proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from West Virginia University in 1976. His career as an environmental engineer spanned 26 years with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, where he worked diligently to protect the natural beauty of his home state.

In 1989, John married the love of his life, Ellen Sue Buckland Scott, of Hinton, WV. Together, they built a life full of love and memories until Sue's passing in 2013. There is comfort in knowing that they are reunited in heaven and together once again. John was also predeceased by his brother, Robert Lee (Butch), and sister, Barbara Crump. His memory lives on in his surviving family: two sons and daughter-in-laws, J.R. (Kayla) and Bobby (Stacie); brother, Tommy; sister, Mary Ann; and four grandchildren, Jared, Brianna, Isabella, and Grace; as well as numerous cousins, loved ones, and friends.

John was of Christian faith and a member of Stanaford Missionary Baptist Church. Some of his happiest times were found as a member of the Grandview Golf Course. He was a proud alumnus of West Virginia University. When not on the golf course, John could be found watching WVU football. As an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter, John truly loved the outdoors and created many memories with his family and friends.
