John Samuel Smith

John Samuel Smith, age 70 went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 10, 2025. He was born in Fayette County on April 16, 1955 to parents, Maynard Owen Smith and Bertha Mae Thomson Smith.

John was a very special man to his community, friends and family and will be greatly missed by all. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping. He was raising three of his grandchildren: Brayden, Makayla and Maliyah.

In addition to his parents, John was preceeded in death by his loving wife, Joyce Marie Bland Smith; son, John Franklin Smith; sister, Janet Lou Smith; two brothers, Danny Owen Smith and Ronald Lee Smith.

Those left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Christy Lane Smith and six grandchildren: Brayden, Hunter, Makayla, Isaac, Bryson and Maliyah; siblings Carol Smith Gardner and Roger Dale Smith both of Columbus, OH; Ramona Smith Maynor (Kirk) of Beaver, WV and Tom Smith (Sharon) of North Kingsville, OH; many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, and a very special neighbor and friend Steve Leach who was a tremendous help in his final days.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 15th at Stanaford Cemetery with Rev. Roger "Junior" Smith officiating.

Pallbearers will be Roger Smith, Kirk Maynor, Bill Dunkley, Jr. and Steve Leach.
