Joey Alan Beckett, "Coach Beckett", born April 5, 1960, went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2026. He was 65 years old. His was a life well lived that touched the lives of many.
He selflessly loved others, especially his family. Those left to treasure a lifetime of memories are his loving wife, Kim, three cherished children, Kaitlynn (Noah) Lei, Jonathan (Carlie) Beckett, and Isaac (Alexis) Beckett, and four precious grandchildren, Raina, Emmett, Ellie, and Rebecca. He also leaves behind a devoted mother, Patty Beckett, and sister, Debbie (Tim) Bellamy. He was preceded in death by his father, William E. Beckett.
His favorite part of each day was spending time with the Lord in prayer and reading God's word to become more like Christ. As a faithful follower of Christ, he served first as a youth leader at Mabscott Baptist Church and later at Daniels Bible Church where he became a respected deacon serving in many capacities with an unwavering servant's heart and dedication. He also taught many Sunday school classes. Above all, he lived out his faith in front of his family in word and deed.
In addition to his spiritual and familial commitments, Joey was an enthusiastic coach, sharing his love of sports through soccer, track, wrestling, and football. He coached girls' soccer and was part of the track coaching staff for the better part of his 23 years at Shady Spring High School. His vibrant spirit and dedication to his passions made a lasting impact on the athletes he guided.
Along with his love of Shady Spring High School sports, everyone knew of his love for Alabama football. Roll Tide!
He taught in the Raleigh County School system for a total of 38 years. He taught science and biology for most of those years while teaching the in school suspension classes in recent years.
At home, he loved sharing the great outdoors with his family. This included: hunting, planting trees, walking on the backside of his farm, picking blackberries and other fruits, and going for walks with his family. His love for his family was only surpassed by his love for God.
A service to honor his life will be held Friday, January 30, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Daniels Bible Church, with visitation from 11:00 am to service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Daniels Bible Church and/or the Shady Spring High School Athletic Club.
