Jerry Wayne Miller
December 31, 1944 — October 25, 2019
Jerry Wayne Miller of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away on October, 25, 2019. Jerry the son of the late Clayton Homer Miller and Agnes Marie Dickens Miller was born December 31, 1944 at Horse Creek, West Virginia.
Jerry is survived by the love of his life Martha Robinson of Fairdale, West Virginia; daughter Rebecca Rae Gillenwater and her husband Mike of Norman, Oklahoma; and son Joseph Wayne Miller and his wife Chloe, grandsons Evan and Dalton, of Sunnyvale, California. He is also survived by his sister Janet Moye and husband Stanley of Saint Augustine, Florida, brother John Miller of Rand, West Virginia, and brother Jody Miller and wife Ruth of Falls Church, Virginia. He is also survived by many friends, fellow educators, students, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was a graduate of West Virginia University (With Masters Degree), Concord College (1966), and Marsh Fork High School (1962). Jerry was employed by the Raleigh County School System for 30 plus years. He served as coach, teacher, and principal at Pettus Elementary School, Mt View School, and Crab Orchard Elementary School. Jerry retired as Adult Education Coordinator for Raleigh County Schools in 2002. Jerry was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and his children will cherish the stories he loved to share. Jerry and Martha loved to travel and their lives together remained a wonderful adventure. Jerry stood firm in his faith and tried to model his life after his favorite Bible verse: Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13. Jerry carried a card in his wallet that stated “Do Everything in Love”, which is how he tried to live his life.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 9, 2019 at Crab Orchard Baptist Church 1501 Robert C Byrd Dr, Crab Orchard, WV 25827 at 12 PM.
