Born in Beckley on April 10, 1952, he was the third child to the late Thomas L. Snuffer and Clara Stevens Snuffer.

James graduated from Trap Hill High School in 1970 and then joined the United States Navy where he served his country in the Vietnam Conflict. He was an excellent trim man, and he passed this talent on down to his daughter, Janay. He loved the outdoors, mowing grass, landscaping, and was very meticulous about his lawn. He was a member of the Family Worship Center where he served on the council for many years. He loved working for the Lord. He taught Sunday school, worked with the teens, visited the shut-ins, operated the sound system, portrayed Jesus in the Easter programs, was a greeter and usher and many other numerous activities in his church for the Lord. James was devoted to his family and always put their needs and wants before his. He was an amazing husband, father, and friend. He will continue to live on through every person his kindness touched.
