Goldie Hurley Rose

Goldie Hurley Rose, aged 99, of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Beckley, West Virginia, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Church Hill Health and Rehab, with her family by her side.

Goldie, born on September 4, 1924, was the daughter of, and preceded in death by, her father Creed Short and mother Martha Short, including 3 brothers and 3 sisters, from Pound, Virginia. She is also preceded in death by her children's father, Myre Hurley, her loving husband Stanley "Stan" Rose, her loving son Vernon Lee Hurley and his wife Donna, and her loving daughter Carrol Hurley Ullrich.

Goldie was very ambitious. After raising her family, she went back to high school and received her diploma, attended college, received her pilot's license, edited the Independent Herald newspaper, worked for, and later volunteered at Raleigh General Hospital. She and Stan loved to travel the country, visiting friends and family. She also enjoyed painting and taking many photographs of her family. Goldie was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Beckley. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Stephen Randall Hurley Sr. (Linda) of Kingsport, TN; Karl Ullrich of Saint Simons, GA; Sheri Huffman (Tim) of Oak Hill, WV; Mike Rose of Oak Hill, WV; and Jeff Rose (Kim) of Jacksonville, NC. Grandchildren: Tina Ullrich Cabrera (Eric); Keith Duty; Lynn Hurley Trivett (Terry); Chris Hurley (Amanda); and Jeremy Hurley; Stephen Randall Hurley II (Jaime); Candice Hurley Pitts (Jonathon). Great-Grandchildren: Ilena Ullrich Maddux (Jacob) and Bella Cabrera; Elyn and Liam Hurley; Paul Duty; Cole, and Grayson Hurley; Dallas, Christian, and the upcoming Brooklyn Mae Pitts. Great-Great-Grandchildren: Takoda and Tilian Maddox.

Visitation will be  on Sunday October 22 from 12 pm to 1 pm for family and from 1 pm to 2 pm for friends at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, with a short Celebration of Life to follow.
