Freda Phipps Cook

Freda Phipps Cook, 86 of Beaver, formerly of Sprague, WV, passed away on November 29, 2021 following a long illness.
Born August 3, 1935 in Crab Orchard, WV, she was the daughter of G. Cleve Phipps and Laura Mae Phipps.
Preceded in death recently was her husband of 66 years, Richard L. Cook. Freda and Richard enjoyed many years of traveling and seeking adventure together after their retirement.
Freda graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1953. She was a retired Postmaster serving both the Helen and Mabscott communities. She was a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church for over 63 years serving as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher for more than twenty-five years. Taking great delight in flower arranging and crafting, Freda loved decorating her home and her Church for socials, dinners, and holidays. She was happiest teaching her granddaughters, and sometimes her grandson, her crafting skills.

Cook, son, and his wife Karen of Charleston, WV; their daughters, Lauren Alexandra “Alex” Bullard and husband David and their children Amelia River Bullard and Abigail James Bullard of South Charleston, WV;, Erin Elizabeth Cook of Arlington, VA; and Mary Kaitlyn “Katie” Cook of Arlington, VA;
Randall L. Cook, son, and his wife Scherrie of Beckley, WV; their children, Randall J. Cook and wife Jessica of Beckley, WV; and Victoria Thomas and husband Justin and their children, Maddison Lynn Thomas and Hadley Rae Thomas of Beckley, WV.
Services will be held at Crab Orchard Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2021 with Rev David Bush and Rev. Dewey Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Freda C. Cook Memorial Fund, Crab Orchard Baptist Church, P.O. Box 446, Crab Orchard, WV 25827 in honor of their mother’s long service, devotion, and affinity to her church home.
