Floyd C. Stacey ("Gramps"), 77, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, West Virginia.
Born to Dover and Nettie Stacey in Buchanan County, Virginia on September 17, 1948. Floyd lived a life marked by service, resilience, and determination. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he continued dedicating many years of his career to serving the United States government before retiring.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Debra Assey and family, Donna Maynor and family and sister Stacey Rowe and family.
Floyd spent much of his life in Costa Rica and Florida before returning to West Virginia in his later years to be near his daughter. Life often takes unexpected turns, and Floyd's final chapter brought an opportunity to reconnect with family, reflect on the past, and build relationships that time and distance had once interrupted. While his journey was not without mistakes or hardships, those who knew him understood that he was a man shaped by both his strengths and his struggles. In the years leading up to his passing, moments of reconciliation, forgiveness, and renewed connection became some of the most meaningful gifts shared between Floyd and those he loved.
Those who knew Floyd will remember his quick wit, strong personality, love of music, and ability to make people laugh. He enjoyed dancing, shopping, and keeping family on their toes with honesty, and stubborn charm.
In his final years, Floyd was cared for with unwavering love, compassion, and dignity. Though fiercely independent and determined to do things his own way, he allowed others to walk beside him through life's most difficult season. His family is grateful for the time they were given together. This brought understanding, healing, laughter, and the chance to know one another more deeply. Even in his final days, Floyd remained true to himself, sharing stories, jokes, and flashes of the spirit that carried him through a life filled with both challenges and perseverance.
Floyd's story reminds us that life is rarely perfect, and neither are the people who live it. Yet there is beauty in second chances, strength in forgiveness, and grace in choosing love despite the past. Though he is no longer with us, the memories created, lessons learned, and bonds restored during his final chapter will remain with those who loved him each in their own unique way.
In accordance with Floyd's wishes, a graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 1:00 at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest among his fellow veterans.
