Elijah Short, Sr.
July 5, 1925 — December 6, 2012
Elijah Short, Sr., 87, of Mabscott, passed away Thursday, December 6 in Beckley. Born July 26, 1925 in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Isaiah “Zar” and Elsie Newcomb Short.
Elijah was a coal miner having worked for Fall River Coal Company and attended Mt Tabor Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, Elijah was preceded in death by his step-son, Billy Barnett; brothers, Jason, Earn and Lacy Short and sisters, Pansy Blankenship and Zelpha McGrady Baldwin.
Survivors include his wife, Dovie Mae Short; sons, Elijah Short, Jr. and Lacy Short both of Mabscott; daughter, Pansy Rowe and her husband Johnny of Charlton Heights, WV; grandchildren, Dallas Meadows, Madison Ann Rowe, Britteny Marie Rowe, Joshua Scott Rowe and Nathanial Jeremiah Underwood; sister, Vertra Smith and brothers-in-law, Daniel, Charles, Henry, Frank and David Barnett and sisters-in-law, Susie Barnett and Hildred Plumley.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2012 in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Pastor Michael King officiating.
