E. Carl Argabrite

January 15, 1933 — March 28, 2019

E. Carl Argabrite, 86, of Grandview passed away at Bowers Hospice House on Thursday March 28, 2019.

Born January 15, 1933 in Duck, WV. He was raised and loved by his maternal grandparents Anis and Mahalia Burnside and his mother Arzula Hunter.

Carl was an Army Veteran. After his service in the Army he resided in Cleveland Ohio where he was employed by Elco Lubrication. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Sue Cox Argabrite. The two moved back to their home state of WV in 1970. They owned and operated many small businesses in town including Park and Shop Seafood, Stanaford Dairy Queen, Daniels Dairy Queen and Harper Road Dairy Queen. In 1976 he and two partners built the Best Western on Harper Road. This was the first of many hotels he and Sue would own and operate throughout the south. His last and final project was the Baymont Inn (formerly Shoneys Inn) on Harper Road. Thru his business dealings he made many lifelong friends. He never met a stranger and was a well-respected business leader in Southern WV.

Carl’s proudest achievement was his family! He enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons, vacationing with the family and simply gathering together to celebrate a special occasion.

Preceded in death by his grandparents Anis and Mahalia Burnside, mother Arzula Hunter and step father Lee Jennings Hunter, Brother Hal Glen James Jr., Sisters Emma Marie Beavers and Carolyn Sue Brown.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years Sue Cox Argabrite, Linda (Randy) Lowe, Carol (Gary) Calvert, Ronald (Claudette) Argabrite, Joseph (Elizabeth) Argabrite, Jim (Cindy) Argabrite.
