Donald Ray Miller died Thursday March7, 2024 at his home in Spring Lake, North Carolina surrounded by his loving family. Ray was the son of the late Donald Miller, Naomi Fitzpatrick Miller Hughes and stepfather Gilmer Hughes.
Ray grew up in Crab Orchard WV. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He joined the Air Force in 1963 and spent the next 27 years serving his country. This includes tours of the Philippines, Vietnam, Egypt, Belgium and four different tours in Thailand. He loved his country and proudly served to protect the USA and his fellow man. Retiring as a Chief Master Sgt. (E-9)
After retirement from the Air Force he was a mechanic at Coty Inc. for 15 years. He loved taking care of his lawn, and having family and friends there for cookouts, dinner and other celebrations.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his loving wife Ouan; sons Danny Miller and fiance Mary, Tommy Miller and wife Angel, Scott Hollowell and wife Liza and Gail Mitchell and husband Jeff; grandchildren; Tyler, Nathan, Brooklyn, Ryder, Jared, Jason, Christina and Jaken; brothers; Denzil Miller and wife Margaret of Sumter, SC., Gene and wife Robbie of Chapel Hill, NC., Virgil and wife Connie of MacArthur, WV., JD Hughes and wife Pat of Mt. Hope, WV, and Doug Hughes of Las Cruces, NM. And numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Ray's Life will be held at Calfee Funeral Home on Tuesday March 12th at 2:00pm. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 prior to the service. He will be buried with full Military Honors at the Family Cemetary on the Fitzpatrick Farm.
