Corliss Gobble

Corliss “Corey” Gobble of Beckley, WV, passed away on June 5, 2026, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long valiant battle with several illnesses. 

Born in Logan, WV, on February 25, 1950, Corey was the oldest son of Eugene and Beulah McDorman Gobble. His family moved to Raleigh County and settled in Rock Creek where he attended school and graduated from Marsh Fork High School in 1968.After a brief enrollment at WVU, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served twenty years. While in the service, he received a B.S. degree from the University of Southern Illinois.After retiring from the Navy, he moved to the Atlanta, GA area. There he worked in electronics until 2004. He then moved back to WV to care for his ailing mother. Later, he briefly worked for the U.S. Census Bureau and Raleigh County Board of Education as a substitute teacher.Corey was an avid reader, and puzzle enthusiast. He especially enjoyed golfing and playing poker with a wonderful group of men. He also loved watching sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Marshall sports with his wife.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah of Beckley. His daughter, Fran McGuffey (Tom) Gough. Three brothers: Charles (Linda) of Xenia, OH, John (Barbara) of Mooresville, NC, and Ronald (Brandy) of Glen Daniel, WV. Stepdaughter, Jessica Palmer (Mount Hope). Grandchildren, Amber Jewell, Tyler McGuffey, Sebastian McGuffey and Paisley Palmer.
