Christine Smith

Christine Smith, 79, of Mabscott, West Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, peacefully at her residence in Mabscott, surrounded by her family.

Born February 10, 1947, in Micco, West Virginia, Christine was the daughter of George Edward Swanagin and Vivian Estrada.

Christine was a born-again believer who trusted in Jesus as her Savior, redeemed by His blood for her sins. She was a baptized member of Bible Baptist Church, where her relationship with God was the foundation of her life. In the years she was healthy enough, Christine could be found in the local hospitals and nursing homes, visiting patients and bringing joy and laughter to everyone she met. She shared the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them, and it was the work she loved most. She was a regular volunteer in her church's Scripture Publishing Ministry. She was a living example of the love of Christ to all who knew her, especially her children, who watched her sacrifice for others time and time again. She embodied the scripture from the book of Philippians 2:3 - "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves." That was Christine.

Christine was preceded in death by Bill Smith, her beloved husband of 60 years.

She is survived by her children, Billy Smith Jr., Vicky Clere, and Jack Smith; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Henry Swanagin; her sister, Judy Gwinn; and her brother, Stanley Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Viewing), with the Memorial Service beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30th at Bible Baptist Church (2071 Robert C. Byrd Dr., Beckley), with Pastor Sam Green officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
