Carol Jean Gwinn Cochran, 90, of Beaver, WV, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026. Born January 16, 1936, in Stanaford, WV, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Emma Jean Gwinn.

Carol was a retired teacher for the Cabell County Board of Education in Huntington, WV. Her teaching career spanned multiple decades. She was a tireless promoter and advocate for the children she served.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Gwinn.

Carol was the spouse of the love of her life, Carlos C. Cochran, who preceded her in death. She is survived by son, Eric Cochran of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Carla Hunter and husband Mark of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Bradley, Nicholas and Shea Cochran, Carli Hunter Funderburk, Dr. Kristin Hunter Kroll, Katherine Hunter Pope and great-grandchildren Cailyn, Sydney, Jack, and Anna Marie; siblings, Williard (Jean) Gwinn, Roger (Linda) Gwinn, David (Diane) Gwinn, Wade Gwinn, Pat (Max) Cochran, Marie Waitkus, Sandy St. Clair.

Services for the immediate family will be held at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, WV with Pastor Rob Ringwald officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Tunnel to Towers, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
