Rev. Carl "Dick" Sellards

June 6, 1936 — March 29, 2023

Beckley, WV

Rev Carl “Dick” Sellards, 86, of Beckley, passed away, Wednesday, March 29, 2023.
Born June 6, 1936 in Decota, WV, Dick was the son of Kennis and Ruth (Anderson) Sellards.  He grew up in Mar Fork, WV, and graduated from Marsh Fork High School in 1954.  He was a proud Veteran, who enlisted in the US Army in March 1958 and then transferred to the US Air Force in March 1964.  After his release from the Air Force, Dick relocated to Chicago.  When he returned to WV, he began working as a route manager with Corey Candy Company.  He went on to earn a Business Degree from Concord College, and began working for the Department of Welfare as an Eligibility Specialist.
Throughout his life, Dick enjoyed participating in many things, such as playing baseball, fishing, traveling to visit friends and family, and drives to take in the sites.  He especially loved his daily “carnics” (car picnics) with Corky, where they would view nature, share meals and loving conversations together.  Although he cherished every day, none compared to what he experienced on February 23, 1973-the day he accepted the Lord as his Savior.  From that moment, he devoted his life to serving the Lord.  Dick became a Pastor, and served in full-time ministry from July 1978-June 2008.  During those years, he earned ordination as Deacon, and Elder and served in many other capacities of leadership and service in the Free Methodist Church. He spent many enjoyable years traveling to preach, and in retirement, he served many area churches.   Dick served 28 years as Chaplain at both Raleigh General Hospital, and Appalachian Regional Hospital.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Leila “Lee” (Brewster) Sellards; brothers, Charles and James Sellards; Infant siblings: Ronald, Kathleen, Josephine, and infant twins Sellards; sisters-in-law Patty (Athey) and Carol Ann (Porterfield) Sellards; Brother in-law Paul McGhee; Grandchildren Max & Alexandra McGinnis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lillian “Corky” Sellards of Beckley; Sons: Scott (Cindy) McGinnis of Columbus, MT and Tom (Lisa) McGinnis of Eccles; Foster son, Roger Scarbrough of Pemberton; Brothers, Duane Sellards and David (Delorise) Sellards; Sister, Carolyn (Larry) Stover; Sisters-in-law, Juanita Sellards, Evelyn McGhee and Lillie (Jerry) Pegram.
