Almeda Frances Mallamas

Almeda Frances Karnes Mallamas, age 95, of Beckley, WV passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the home of her son, Paul Mallamas.
A lifelong resident of Beckley, born September 7, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Hobert Karnes and Pearl Karnes Pilkington.
Almeda was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She was an avid reader and loved traveling. She and her husband Paul traveled to all states in the continental United States except Alaska in their motor home before his passing in 1998. She also enjoyed multiple trips to Hawaii and Florida, as well as cruises with her family and friends. She attended the Calloway Heights Baptist Church and was a member of Ladies of the Moose, Beckley Lodge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mallamas, Jr; her brother Clyde Edward Karnes; and her sons-in-law George Thornley, Roy Querry and James Shumate.
Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her loving sisters Freda Mae Childers of Princeton, WV and Mary Lee Watson of St. Albans, WV; her son, Paul Mallamas and wife Shirley of Beckley; her daughters, Carolyn Querry Shumate of Coal City, WV; Sharon Thornley and special friend Frankie Ubeda of Titusville, FL; Tina Lake and husband Terry of Denver, CO; her special niece Judith (Judy) Kobelia of Beckley; five grandchildren, Beth Thornley O’Donnell and husband Larry of Orlando, FL; Michael Thornley and wife Amphai of West Palm Beach, FL; Katy Thornley of St. Petersburg, FL; Paula Querry Johnson and husband Jeff of Beckley; and Courtney Lake and husband Jared Casner of Denver, CO. As well as, six great grandchildren, Nathan O’Donnell, Ryan O’Donnell, Christopher Johnson, Landon Casner, Tyler Casner and Avery Casner.
The family would like to extend their extreme gratitude to Almeda’s amazing caregivers including, Roman, her pet poodle and most loyal and dedicated caregiver, and Janet Bowling who preceded her in death. Also, Patricia Ellis, Debra Nelson, Tacy Bennett and Hospice of Southern WV. The love and care they gave to her will always be remembered.
A private service for the immediate family will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Raleigh County Humane Society or to Hospice of Southern WV.
