Alan was a 1975 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, a member of the First Baptist Church, Beckley and a former member of the Beckley-Raleigh County Jaycees. He was currently employes as an advertising executive with Lamar Advertising Company and was a former insurance agent with Raleigh Insurance in Beckley. He was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County. He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Holliday.
