William Patrick Coffman

William Patrick Coffman, 81, of Beckley passed away peacefully at Bowers Hospice House on Wednesday December 23, 2015. Born June 14, 1934 in Prince to the late Andrew Dixon and Nora Tolley Coffman. Pat was also preceded in death by 4 brothers; Curtis, Opal, Harley and Willard and 3 sisters; Pearl, Dolly and Ruby. Pat is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Pat worked at Wilbur’s and retired from the Raleigh County Board of Education after 10 years of service. He attended Oak Grove Christian Church with his family. He married the love of his life, Garnet Rose Tolbert on August 12, 1956 in Beckley. She preceded him in death on February 9, 2012.

Pat was a passionate man and enjoyed gardening. He had greenhouses for many years and loved servicing his customers.

Survivors include his only daughter and caregiver; Kathy Thompson and her husband Tom; grandchildren, Melissa Via and husband Daniel, TJ Thompson, Krystle Grimes and husband Duane; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Emma and Jacob Via and Kayleigh Grimes, all of Beckley and special friends and caregivers who were like family, Marita Via and Jessica Holstein.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the Oak Grove Christian Church with Dr. Jim Owston officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery with Pastor Ken Hawes officiating the committal service. Friends may visit with the family from 1:30 until time of service.

Pallbearers will be TJ Thompson, Krystle Grimes, Daniel Via, Duane Grimes, Gene Loving and Bo Tolbert.

Flowers are appreciated or you could make a memorial contribution to Oak Grove Christian Church. Pat would also like for his family and friends to visit someone in a nursing home if possible.
