William H. Bill May

March 10, 1946 — January 11, 2015

William “Bill” H. May, 68, of Lerona, WV passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following a courageous battle with leukemia. Born March 10, 1946 in Camden, NJ he was the son of the late William Vincent and Lauretta Virginia Waddy May. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Howard Eugene Johnston.
Bill was a very active member of the community having served as President and Vice President of Kiwanis Club of Beckley and as Governor for the West Virginia District Kiwanis. Bill was past President, Vice President and on the Board of Trustees for Appalachian Unit of WV (Airstream), member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Fraternal Order of Elks, past President of Elk Mills Civic Organization in Elk Mills, MD and belonged to the Train Collectors Association, TCA, and Harley Owners Group, past member of the WV Contractors Association and a member of the Teamsters Union. Bill was the owner of Black Gold Trucking, Inc. and May Stone and Materials, Inc.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Deborah Karen May; son, Brian W. May and his wife Missy of Speedway, WV; granddaughters, Brittini Orcutt and husband Matt of Shady Spring, and Alexis and Madison May of Speedway; great grandchildren, Brycen and Khloe Orcutt of Shady Spring; sister, Signora Melvin and husband Russell of Rochester, MI; mother-in-law, Greta Williams Johnston of Athens; brother-in-law, Steven Johnston and wife Wendy of Athens; sister-in-law, Valerie Thompson and husband Wayne of Wake Forest, NC; nieces, Tamara Herrmann of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Kelly Montgomery of Wake Forest, NC and Rachel Parsons of Athens; nephews, Kevin Thompson of Wendell, NC and Billy and Mathew Parsons of Athens; great nephews, Dennis, Ritchie and Bryan Herrmann and Mason Montgomery and multiple other great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Thursday, January 15, 2015 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 700 Maxwell Hill Rd. with Rev. Wanda Childs officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family Wednesday, January 14, from 6 to 9 P.M. at the church and again 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be George Smith, George Wilson, Steven Johnston, Wayne Thompson, Robert Fritz, Victor Fletcher, Wayne Barth and John Keith Johnston. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Thompson, Eddie Montgomery, Terry Choate, Zach Choate, Jed Choate, Jimmy Wood, Jay Matics and Seth Wood. Special pallbearers unable to attend are Dennis Herrmann, Ritchie Herrmann, Bryan Herrmann, Ken Dyrland and Marshall Fletcher.
Flowers are appreciated but memorial contributions may also be sent to WV Kiwanis District Foundation, C/O Jan Shelburne, WesBanco Trust and Investments, 1 Bank Plaza, Wheeling, WV 26003.
