Virgil Robert Lewis, 82, of Daniels, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 at his home following a long illness. Born July 21, 1930 in Beckley, he was the oldest son of the late Virgil Robert Lewis, Sr. and Gladys Loretha McClung Lewis. Virgil served his country from 1951-1953 in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He also had many talents and hobbies in his lifetime. He was an expert jeweler and watch repairman, a trade he learned as a young boy from his grandfather, P.W. McClung. He worked for various jewelry stores in Beckley and later became a self employed clock repairman. He worked for the Raleigh County Board of Education as a school bus driver. He was a beekeeper all his life and enjoyed gardening and working outside around his home. He had an interest in radio controlled model air planes and collecting old radios. He loved to ride in his classic 1969 Lincoln and go to car shows.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 20= years, Tammey Hawks Lewis who wrapped him in her arms as he died peacefully in their home. Virgil was the proud father of 5 caring children, son, Vernon Lewis and wife Kay of Dallas, TX; daughters, Patty Wood and husband Doug of Beckley, Linda Crook and husband John of Limestone, TN, Laverna Richmond and Angie Underwood of Daniels. He is also survived by his loving sister, Violet Lynch and husband Jack of Winchester, VA and a brother, Ray Lewis and wife Joan of Frederick, MD. There are 9 wonderful grandchildren and 8 adorable great grandchildren
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jesse Farley officiating. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the family to assist with expenses or to a charity of choice.
