Saundra Ann Barnett of Beckley died May 16, 2020 at Bowers Hospice House. Born May 16, 1940 to Glen and Nellie Smith Barnett in Sandlick, WV, Saundra grew up in Mercer County. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David and close friend Katherine Kambouris.
Saundra earned a B.S. degree in Medical Technology from Concord College and worked for forty plus years at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital Clinical Laboratory as laboratory scientist and blood bank supervisor as well as instructor in BATH School of Medical Technology. She also earned her S.S.B.B, a specialty designation in blood banking, and was called upon by many other labs to help in problem solving.
She loved her schnauzer dogs, bowling, and fishing at Flat Top lake. She was a good cook and enjoyed using her mother’s recipes.
Saundra is survived by her brother Joe, his wife Barbara, and son, Greg, as well a several as several great nieces and great nephews. Also surviving her are nephews, Jim Kambouris and wife Melissa of Chevy Chase, MD, Nick Kambouris, M.D. and wife Stephanie of Crownsville, MD, Stephen Samaras and wife Challie of Annapolis, MD; nieces, Evangeline Ross and husband Mike of Annapolis, MD, and Daphne Foreman and husband Dan of Odenton, MD. Special friends in Raleigh County who will miss Saundra’s quick wit and sense of humor include Drs. Zarina and Syed Rasheed, Katherine and Butch Wickline, Edna and Bob Nasby, Linda Hickman (of Fairmont), Joe and Marlene Ford, Joanne Kish, Denise Lambert, and Saundra’s beloved dog, Sabrina. Many former students who are all over the United States are grateful for what and how she taught them and remember her with appreciation.
Services will be 12 pm Wednesday, May 20, 2020 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Father Samuel Haddad officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service.
Please make any expressions of sympathy to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Bowers Hospice House, Raleigh county Humane Society, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
