Roger Emmett Deck, 56, of Sophia, WV is home with his Lord. His battle with pancreatic cancer is over. Roger passed away Thursday, May 30 at Bowers Hospice House. Born February 18, 1957 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Shirley Dyes and Arveral Deck. He was preceded in death by his father, a grandson and a brother, Jimmy Deck formerly of Sophia.
Roger spent his childhood in Sophia and graduated from Sophia High School in 1975. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Beckley and recently rededicated his life to the Lord.
He is survived by a son, Jeremy Deck of Mabscott; his former wife and mother of his son, Mary Hall of Beckley and his step mother, Patty Deck of Sophia.
A special thanks to Phyllis and Jack Hylton, Cristal and Dickie Shrader and Mary Walker his cousin for their special care. Also to the hospice nurses for all they did for him.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Boyd and Dr. Charles Bright officiating. Burial will follow in the Hot Coal Cemetery in Sophia. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service on Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Deck, Randy and Jeff Hunt, Dickie Shrader, Chuck Adkins, Billy McCreachen and Danny McKinney.
