Robert J. Williams, 82, of Beckley, died Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Raleigh General Hospital after a short illness. Born October 2, 1929 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late William G. and Margaret Smith Williams. He was a resident of Beckley since 1970.

Mr. Williams was a retired Senior Master Sergeant (USAF) with over 23 years of military service. Mr. Williams worked for Applied Industrial Technologies (formerly Bearings, Inc.) at Harper Industrial Park and retired from there in 1994. He was of the protestant faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Emma Braell Williams and a sister, Charlotte Murphy.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda J. Massey of Beckley, Mrs. Cheryl D. Ward and husband Bob of Crab Orchard; one son, James R. Williams and wife Jill of Lewisburg; a brother, Harry T. Williams and wife Nancy of Shavertown, PA; five grandchildren, Jeremy Ruth and wife Gina of Beckley, Sarah Ruth Benfield and husband Shawn, Kelsey Nicole Williams, James Lewis Massey and Jamie Michelle Williams; one great grandchild, Helena Elise (Lani Belle) Benefield.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John K. Jordan officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service on Tuesday. Following his wishes Mr. Williams will be cremated.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
