Nellie Bowling Melito
Nellie B. Melito, age 77 of Beckley, WV went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Born January 23, 1933 in Lester, WV, she was preceded in death by her first husband Charles E. McMillion and her second husband Carmelo Melito. She is survived by four children; Diana Adkins of Rockingham, NC, Kathy Carr of Cool Ridge, Lisa Lilly and her husband Larry of Daniels, and a son, Stevie McMillion and wife Rita of Grandview, 10 grandchildren; David Kent Mitchell, Charlotte Ballenger, Tony Adkins, Kerry Robertson, Amy Mills, Danny Carr, Timmy Duncan, Scotty Duncan, Stacie Lilly and Dana Lilly, 10 great-grandchildren, half sister, Gloria Adkins and husband Tommy of Clear Creek, great aunt, Lillian Meadows of Hinton, WV.
She was a graduate of Trap Hill High School and Morris Harvey (College) University of Charleston. She did post graduate work from Bluefield State, WV University and Marshall University. She taught school in Raleigh County for six years. She retired from the WV Department of Human Services after 34 years. She was a member of Beckley Moose Lodge Women of the Moose where she held several offices and Fraternal Eagles Auxiliary of Mabscott. She worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross, was an avid bowler and bingo player for several years. She was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Morris Harvey College Alumni.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to service on Saturday.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
