Michael John Smith, 56 of Beckley, died Thursday, December 30, 2010 after a long illness. He was born August 18, 1954 in Beckley, WV.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Edgar Smith, his grandfather, Jason Shuck, brother-in-law, Roger Neal and sister-in-law Terri Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Danny Keith Smith, two grandsons, Danny Keith Smith, Jr. and Tyler James Smith, granddaughter, Casssie Cochran all of Beckley, his mother, Evelyn Smith, sister, Deborah Neal, brothers David E. Smith and Tommy J. Smith and his wife Ginna all of Beckley. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Bernice Shuck and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Michael was a member of the UMWA and the Retired Construction Workers. He worked in the coal mines for 13 years and in construction for 6 years. He was an outdoorsman; he loved to fish, hunt and go camping. Michael had a generous heart.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Coalson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Sunday.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
