Maxine Whitman

Maxine N. Whitman, 87, of Beckley, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Bowers Hospice House following a short illness. Born August 8, 1923 in Canvas, WV, she was the daughter of the late Eunice Dexter and Della Groves Bryant. Maxine was a former sales clerk for J.C Penney and George’s Fashions. She was a member of the United Methodist Temple and was very involved with church activities. She loved her Wednesday morning Bible study group. She was also a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and DAR. Maxine had been a resident of Beckley since 1960. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Mason Whitman in 2002, sisters; Maurine Bryant and Betty Jane Carpenter and a brother, Billy Marvin Bryant.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo Seeman and husband Sam of Uniontown, PA, son, Richard C. Whitman and wife Linda of Beckley, grandchildren; Michael Seeman and wife Beth Ann of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, David Seeman of Mission Viejo, CA, Brian Whitman and wife Julie of Powder Springs, GA, Julie Kukreja and husband Brijesh of Algonquin, IL, great-grandchildren; Samuel and Wilson Seeman, Lauren and Daniel Whitman, Amelie and Amari Kukreja
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m.Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the United Methodist Temple with Dr. Chuck Pullins officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum B. Friends may call at the Calfee Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and at the church one hour prior to service on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Brian Whitman, Michael Seeman, Brijesh Kukreja and Sam Seeman.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to United Methodist Temple, 201 Templeview Dr., Beckley, WV 25801 or Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Dr., Beckley, WV 25801.
