Mary Elizabeth Thomas

Mary Elizabeth White Thomas, 97, of Beckley, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Bowers Hospice House. Born May 29, 1918 in Scranton, PA she was the daughter of the late Harry and Sarah Buffton White. Besides her parents Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert William Thomas, Sr.; son, Robert William Thomas, Jr.; brothers, Harry E. White, Donald Jones, Billie Jones and Bobby Jones and a step-sister, Thylda Hillf.
Mary was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where she was active in the Lizzie Lewis Circle and taught Sunday School. She was also a member and held office in the WV Baptist Women’s Association. She was previously a member of Mullens First Baptist Church and South Hills Baptist Church in Pittsburgh and directed Bible Schools in many churches in Raleigh and Wyoming counties. Mary volunteered for many years at the BARH gift shop and was a member of the Beckley Garden Club.
Mary loved the Lord with all her heart and lived her life serving Him. She always tried to help others in any way she could and never passed an opportunity to witness her faith.
Survivors include her 5 children; Joan Ball of Pickerington, OH, David Thomas of Fayetteville, Karen Landfair of Grove City, PA, Paul Thomas of Proctorville, OH and Roger Thomas of Parkersburg, WV; brother, Daniel Jones of Scranton, PA; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Doc Adkins and Rev. Daniel Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Calfee Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Paul, Roger, Robert and Jonathan Thomas, Bradley Landfair and Nicholas Kline.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial donations be made to either First Baptist Church, 422 Neville St., Beckley, WV 25801, WV Baptist Camp, P.O. Box 1019, Parkersburg, WV 26102 or American Baptist Women Association/WV Chapter, P.O. Box 851, Valley Forge, PA 19482-0851.
