On Thursday, September 2, 2010, Margie R. Beckett, 84, of Crab Orchard, joined her beloved husband and became a member of the heavenly choir. Born February 12, 1926 in Hinton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Theodore and Luda Mae Yancey Smith. Margie was a former secretary retiring from the VA Medical Center after 33 years of service. She was an organist/pianist and member of the choir at Crab Orchard Baptist Church. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond D. Beckett, beloved grandson, Chad Thomas, brother, Lester Smith, sister, Lois Smith and her beloved sister and lifetime friend, Glenna Beckett,
Survivors include a son, R. Dean Beckett, II and wife Sarita of Crab Orchard; daughters, Janet Thomas and husband Jim of Chillicothe, OH, Barbara Gerlach and husband Stephen of Grandview; grandchildren, Todd Thomas and wife Amy, Paul Thomas and wife Missy, Allison Butler and husband Chris, Scott Gerlach and wife Meridith, Heather Gragg and husband Bill, Jocelyn Bond and husband Phillip, Justine Beckett; 13 great-grandchildren and her beloved pet and companion, Casey.
A celebration of Margie’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Crab Orchard Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Sisson officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the church from noon until service time on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Todd Thomas, Scott Gerlach, Paul Thomas, Chris Butler, Bill Gragg, Phillip Bond, Steven Beckett. Honorary pallbearers will be Hartsel Beckett, Tom Beckett, Mike Beckett, John Goodman and Joey Beckett.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Gideons International, 517 Orchard Ave., Beckley, WV 25801 or to Crab Orchard Baptist Church, P.O. Box 446, Crab Orchard, WV 25827.
