Lewis Canterbury

December 20, 1926 — March 18, 2008

Lewis was born of Lewis I. And Hattie Snuffer Canterbury at Killarney, WV on December 20, 1926. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Vera Lee Canterbury, his brother, Mack Canterbury, and his sisters Irene O'Shinski, Wanda Whitt, Geneva Walker and Maxine Cormack.
Junior was known in his community for his beautiful gardens, his relentless pursuit of hunting and fishing, and his willingness to help anyone in need. His passion for life was an inspiration, and he often entertained those around him with his wonderful stories of hunting and fishing trips in days gone by, and of his military experiences.

He was an Army infantry veteran serving in Japan during WW II. He was proud of his thirty year career as a coal miner, having last worked at the Eccles No. 6 mine for Westmoreland Coal Co. He attended Stoco and Woodrow Wilson High Schools.
