Lena Giovanni Ramella

Lena Giovanni Ramella, 92, of Daniels, formerly of Welch, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014. Born February 3, 1921 in Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Francesca Rasi. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Ramella; sister, Maria Oliver and brother, Francesco “Frank” Rasi.
Lena was a former sales clerk for McDowell Supply Co. She was a member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church and former member of St. Peters Catholic Church and St. Theresa’s Society in Welch as well as the garden club. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening.
She is survived by her sons, David Ramella and Dennis Ramella both of Daniels and Reno Ramella and his wife Drema of Charleston, WV; grandson, Joseph Ramella of Hurricane, WV; sister, Thelma Dina Rasi of Bluefield, VA and brother, Dionigi (Dan) Rasi and his wife Nancy of Bluefield, WV as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church with Monsignor Samuel Sacus and Father Patrick McDonough officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Calfee Funeral Home where a rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. led by Rev. Mr. Don Wise.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Ramella, Jerry Rasi, Mike Munsey, Monte Ramella and other family members and friends.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, 614 S. Oakwood Ave., Beckley, WV 25801 or to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 111 Virginia Ave., Welch, WV 24801.
