Joyce Phipps

Joyce K. Phipps, 68, of Beckley, died Friday, June 12, 2009, at her home surrounded by family and friends. Born August 31, 1940, in Ravenscliff, WV, she was the daughter of the late Wanus Shumate and Loreen Phillips Shumate Collier. Joyce was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a retired Social Worker for the State of West Virginia. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Bryant of Beckley.
Survivors include her husband Dallas Phipps; daughter Debra Bryant and husband Daniel of Hickery, NC; son Greg Phipps and wife Mary of Beckley; sister Alice Johnson of Hopewell, VA; grandsons Samuel Phipps of Highpoint, NC, Zachery and Nicholas Bryant of Hickery, NC; great aunt Shirley Pendry of Virginia, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Delmas Wolfe of Hospice of Southern West Virginia officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
