Josephine Elizabeth Pachuta

July 14, 1931 — March 7, 2021

Josephine Elizabeth (Peelish) Pachuta
1931-2021
In the early morning hours Sunday, March 7, 2021 our beloved Mother and Momaw left her earthly
body and joined her husband Gazie to rest in Eternal Paradise.
Josephine Elizabeth (Peelish) Pachuta was born July 14, 1931 in Raleigh, West Virginia to John and
Paulina (Jasicniewska) Peelish. Josephine grew up in Raleigh, one of eleven siblings.
Josephine was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley. Soon after graduation,
Josephine began working at the Beckley VA Hospital where she remained her entire work career.
In 1954, she married her devoted husband, Gazie Pachuta and they made their home in Beckley
where they lived the rest of their lives. From this union came two sons, Bob (Robert) and John. Her
sons were everything to her and she loved them and guided them her entire life.
Josephine was a nurturing, caring woman who was soft-spoken and gentle. She always had a smile
on her face and a kind word on her lips. She loved growing her own rose bushes around her home and
spent many sunny days tending them. She and Gazie planted a large vegetable garden each year and
the rows were always meticulous and the plants thriving.
Josephine retired from the Beckley VA to help with their granddaughter, Laura when she was born.
Momaw and Popaw spent many days outside playing in the yard, inside playing board games, watching
tv and just being together.
In addition to her parents, Josephine is preceded death by her forever husband of 58 years, Gazie
Pachuta; brothers John, Victor, Bill (Walter), Mike and Steve Peelish; and sisters Antoinette Chamarro,
Sophie Scarafino, Blanche Statzer and Mary Muha.
Josephine will be forever cherished by her two loving sons Robert (Nancy) and John (Vickie) and
granddaughters Laura (Jimmy) and their children Abby, Sophie, Zach, Jayce and Riley; Barbara and Sissy
and her son, Brian. In addition, she is survived by one sister, Agnes Nagy. She is also survived by many
dear nieces, nephews and their families.
The family has always worshipped at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church. On Friday, March 12, 2021
there will be visitation beginning at 10:00 am at Calfee Funeral Home, 800 South Oakwood Avenue,
Beckley. At 11:00 am, we will gather at St. Francis deSales Church to acknowledge the life of this
humble, Christian woman. She had a deep love for the Lord and showed it in her daily living. Rev. Fr.
Paul J. Wharton will lead all of us as we celebrate Josephine's 89 years of life here on earth and the
beginning of her eternal life with God.
In accordance with current CDC guidelines and the mandate from the governor of West Virginia,
social distancing and facial coverings will be observed.
Josephine will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Gazie at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in
