John Glen Kelley

March 30, 1932 — March 22, 2012

On Thursday, March 22, 2012, our beloved, papaw,” John Glen Kelley, 79, of Coal City, WV, got a new pair of tennis shoes when he went to be with the Lord.

Born March 30, 1932 in Atkins, VA, he was the son of the late Troy and Rose Anderson Kelly. In addition to his loving parents, John Glen was preceded in death by his brothers Gayle and Kyle Kelly and his sister Kathleen Kelly Blackburn, nephew, Joey Kelley and brother-in-law, W.W. (Bill) Graham. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Cole Kelley, only daughter Karen Kelley Lane and her husband Richard. He was the very proud and active grandfather of Kelli Lane Carrico, her husband Tim Carrico, and golfing buddy grandson, David Mark Lane. His three greatest joys were his three great-granddaughters, Katie Sue (9), Emma Jane (3), and Gracie Linn (1). John was also survived by his twin brother Joseph Ben Kelley, wife Betty Cole Kelley, and sister-in-law Sue Graham.

John spent 40 years as an engineer on the railroad in Mullens, WV. He taught everyone the value of hard work, importance of family, and necessity of laughter. He will be remembered for his pranks and sense of humor, along with trips to the mall, walking hand-in-hand with Bobbie, and many trips to every ballgame and golf tournament in and out of West Virginia.

A special thanks to Dr. Joseph Golden, the wonderful staff of Bowers Hospice House and faithful caregivers, Dottie Hollingshead and Yulane Murphy who made a difficult time much easier.

Viewing will be held on Saturday, March 24, at Calfee Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doc Adkins officiating. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Dr., Beckley, WV 25801.
