James Thomas Farris

Dr. James Thomas Farris, 89, of Beckley, died Sunday, April 19, 2009 in an Oak Hill care center. Born May 10, 1919 in Beckley, he was the son of the late Gus and Jamelia Salem Farris. Dr. Farris was a retired dentist having practiced in Beckley for many years. He was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Dental Association, Black Knight Country Club and American Legion Post 32. He was a past president of the West Virginia Dental Association and the New River Dental Association, and a charter member of Flat Top Lake Association. Dr. Farris was a former member of the Civitan Club, Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge. He was a graduate of the University of Louisville and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corp. during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lee Farris and by a daughter, Renetta Smith.

Survivors include daughters; Karen Lilly of Beckley and Dr. Jimelle Rumberg and husband Randy of Columbus, OH, grandchildren; Melissa Lilly, Jamie Hall, Christa Delgado, Paige Rumberg, Ann Randall Rumberg, 2 great-granddaughters, 3 great-grandsons, sisters; Evelyn Farris and Helen Hayes of Beckley, Florence Boisse of Manchester, NH, numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009 at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church with Monsignor Samuel S. Sacus the celebrant. A rite of committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 where a rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. led by Rev. Mr. Don Wise. Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will serve as honor guard.
Pallbearers will be Gus, Fred and Felix Farris, Randy Rumberg, Chris Hall, Michael and Forest Lynch.
