George O. Cales

George O. Cales, 84, of Beckley, passed away Saturday October 20, 2012 at Heartland of Rainelle following a long illness. Born March 3, 1928 in Hinton, he was the son of the late Eunice Carl and Murphy Richmond Cales.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eunice Carl Cales, Jr. and James Melvin Cales, father- in-law, Earl L. Hellems and mother-in-law, Mary Wallace Hellems and brother-in-law, Jack L. (Buzzy) Hellems.
George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary June Hellems Cales; two sons, J.E. Cales of Beckley and George Steven Cales of Hinton; one daughter, Mary Pat Wickline and husband Steve of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Casey Cales and wife Terry of Shady Spring, Jacob Cales and wife Sara of Daniels, Joshua Stricklen and JoBeth Stricklen of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; three great grandchildren, Cainan, Kylee, and Kate Cales of Shady Spring; sisters-in-law, Garnet Cales Hatcher and Glenda Hellems of Hinton; three nieces and nephews.
George was a graduate of Hinton High School and National Business College. He served two years in the Navy and worked at National Finance Company for 27 years and retired from Beneficial Finance. He was a member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church, Moose Lodge, Beckley Masonic Lodge #95 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem Shrine.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25, at the Beckley Presbyterian Church with Rev. John C. McKinnon and Rev. Janice M. Tiedeck officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8pm at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley.
Pallbearers will be Casey Cales, Jacob Cales, Joshua Stricklen, Gus Farris, Kent Hellems, Jack Hellems, Randy Lickliter, Frank Douglas Warren, and Jeff Osborne. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Haynes, Burton Gunter, Bob Andrighetti, Jimmy Wickline, Michael Osborne, and his Beckley Shrine brothers.
Beckley Masonic Lodge #95 A.F. & A.M. will conduct graveside rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Beckley Presbyterian Church, 203 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV 25801 or Hospice of Southern West Virginia P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802-1472.
