Gary Jason Adkins, 60, of Sandstone passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014. Born December 30, 1953 in Fairbanks, AK, he was the son of Walter Franklin Adkins and the late Vera Wardensky Adkins. Gary was a heavy equipment operator having worked for Lanford Brothers in Roanoke, VA. He grew up as a military brat living in the Philippines, Guam, Japan, Washington state, Maine and southern California to name a few places, and graduated high school in south Florida. Gary had an avid interest in everything involving motorcycles, and especially loved riding and caring for his Harley Davidson bikes. He had an endless love for animals with a special place in his heart for his dog Scooter. Gary was also a big movie fan, most fond of westerns with John Wayne or Clint Eastwood and the Lord Of The Rings series. He also greatly enjoyed NASCAR and Ford Mustangs.
In addition to his father, Gary is survived by his son, Jamie Adkins and his wife Deliah of Florida; grandchildren, Ava, Malcolm and Clementine Adkins, all of Florida; stepdaughters Angela Rose Martin of Virginia and Amanda Rose Kirk of West Virginia.; stepmother Deborah Adkins; sister, Sue Ellen Adkins Rose and her husband Robbie with their daughter Kristina and son Jonathan, all of West Virginia; Yvonne Wood of Virginia, Rose Harris of North Carolina, and numerous other family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2PM, Monday, March 3, 2014 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Dave Simon officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 12PM until time of service on Monday.
