Floda Mae Cantabery

December 7, 1919 — January 29, 2009

Floda Mae Cantabery, age 89, of Beckley, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.
Born December 7, 1919 in Beckley she was one of three daughters of Charles and Eva Richardson of Beckley. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Wanda Dunkley.
Floda was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and afterward attended Bowling Green University where she earned her teaching degree in business. She later went on to earn her Masters Degree in Counseling at Marshall University. Floda had a long and rewarding life as a high school teacher and counselor at Clear Fork and Shady Spring High Schools where she tutored and shaped many young lives. Her mentoring was remembered throughout her students’ lives as she was asked through the years to attend their class reunions from even fifty years past.
Floda had many, many friends and always had a smile and a welcome hello. Her friends knew her as someone that cared and loved those around her. She was always involved in charitable work in the community and lent a hand in organizing, directing, or doing any work that made whatever she did a success. She was active in 4H, the Women’s Club of Beckley and the WVEA and attended the First Baptist Church of Beckley. She dedicated her life to her family with unconditional love and sacrifice. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and neighbor and will be sadly missed by all.
She will be forever loved and missed by her sister Nelle Keefer, her one son Rick and his wife Shea of Conway, Arkansas; two grandchildren, John Cantabery and his wife Lori of Sherwood, Arkansas, and Abby King and her husband Stuart of Conway, Arkansas.
