Donald Keith Gombert, 76, of Beckley, passed away at home Monday, July 15, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born April 19, 1937 in Ravenna, OH, he was the son of the late Harrison Rudolph and Gladys Evelyn Stamm Gombert.
Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by sister, Betty Ann Gombert; brother William Gombert and sister-in-law, Florence Betty Gombert.
Donald was a Building Code Plans Examiner for the City of Beckley Code Enforcement Department and was appointed by Gov. Tomblin to serve on the Design Build Board, an honorary position. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ where he served as a Deacon, adult Sunday school teacher, past Chairman of the Church Board and past Building Department Chairman. He was also on the Salvation Army Advisory Board, CAWV Board member, the AIA Rotary International and retired from SEM Partners.
Donald is survived by his wife, Karen “Tipper” Gombert of Beckley; daughters, Debra Segal and her husband Michael of Rye Brook, NY and Denise Herold and her husband Jay of Columbus, OH; son, Brandon Scott Privett of Winston Salem, NC; daughter, Jeanne McKan and her husband Jerry of Beckley; granddaughter, Samantha Tyrrell and her husband Chris of Columbus, GA; grandson, James A. Steiner of Columbus, OH, granddaughter, Corinne Segal of Rye Brook, NY, grandson, Derrick Steiner of Columbus, OH; granddaughter, Cynthia Segal of Rye Brook, NY; grandson, Anthony Privett of Lexington, NC; grandson, Elijah McKan of Beckley; granddaughter, Jillian McKan of Beckley; granddaughter, Cameron Privett of Lexington, NC; great-grandchildren, Hailey Christopher and Owen Tyrrell.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Snyder officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where American Legion Post 32 will conduct military honors.
Pallbearers will be Justin Reynolds, Ryan Cook, James Steiner and Jimmy Steiner.
