Delma Lee Farr

April 28, 1924 — August 20, 2008

Born April 28, 1924, in Draper, NC, the daughter of the late Elder Charlie Reed Rakes and Fannie Ellen Vipperman. She grew up and lived most of her life in southern WV. Delma, known to all as “Grannie”, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an enthusiastic member of her community where she volunteered in many different organizations. She was the 4H leader in the Maple Meadow area for many years. She was a charter member of the Lester Area Development, an active member of the Women’s Moose Club, and the WIBC (bowling association), but of these her spirit was embedded within the many young hearts she touched through countless hours of mothering. She touched numerous lives through her dedication to family and friends. Her passions included cooking, reading, writing poetry, and reminiscing with her beloved family. Delma was of the Primitive Baptist Faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin W. Farr, a daughter Sharon Lee Farr, two sisters, Thelma Cook and Mattie Mae Rakes, and three brothers, Virgil Rakes, James Rakes, and Lawrence Rakes.

Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, William R. Farr and wife Donna of Champmanville, and David S. Farr and wife Nancy of Harper; one sister, Naomi Pantels and husband Todd of Winchester VA; six grandchildren, Amy and husband Gary Altice of Colfax NC, Sarah and husband Jeff Honaker of Daniels, Rachel and husband Calvin “Deke” Goodwin of Harper, Timothy Farr and wife Chasity of Champmanville, James Farr of Champmanville, and Matthew Farr and wife Leslie of Charleston; eight great-grandchildren, Pierson Altice, Lydia and Honaker, Logan and Greyson Goodwin, Emily Farr, William Farr, and Tommy Farr; as well as many adored nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

The Farr family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Friday, August 22 and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley. Private graveside rights will follow at the Calfee Cemetery, Mt. Tabor, with Rev. Carl Sellards, officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
