Bernard K. Bernie Burdiss

Bernard K. (Bernie) Burdiss, 72, of Rhodell, passed away Monday, December 19, in Lynchburg, VA. Born January 30, 1939 in Beckley he was the son of the late John Bernard and Dorothy Calfee Burdiss. Bernie was a retired construction worker having last worked for the WV Turnpike. He was also employed as a tool maker foreman for Cline Tool Co. in Chicago, IL. He was a member of Laborer's Local Union 453. Bernie loved the WV Mountaineers and Chicago Cubs and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He returned to the area from Chicago in 1976. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Burdiss.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Glenna (Brenda) M. McGraw Burdiss; son, Gregory K. Burdiss and wife Penny of Walnut Cove, NC; daughters, Lora A. Zickafoose and husband Doug of Culloden, WV and Nicole L. Arrington and husband Chris of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren, Justin and Jared Zickafoose of Culloden, WV, Cameron and Tyler Arrington of Lynchburg, VA, step grandson, Michael Smith of Walnut Cove, NC; sister, Dana Spencer and husband Jim of Rhodell, WV; brother Arthur Burdiss and wife Ceretha of Flat Top, WV; brothers and sisters-in-law that Bernie had been close to throughout his life, Johnny McGraw of Meade, WV, Danny (Rudy) McGraw of Richlands, VA, Benny McGraw of Meade, WV, Roger McGraw and wife Tresa of Mullens, Diane Cawley and husband Stu of Lester, WV, Talitha Tankersley and husband Richard of Beckley, Kathy Robb and Lenny of Culloden, WV and a large number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Grace & Truth Chapel in Coal City with Rev. Bill Spencer officiating. Friends may gather with the family at the church from 6:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the family to assist with expenses.
