Arlene Farmer Chambers White, was born January 1, 1932, at Bolt, West Virginia, and died February 26, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Anthony A. and Icie Tabor Farmer. On November 2, 2000, she was diagnosed with Evan’s Syndrome.
She was a member of the Breckenridge Missionary Baptist Church at Bolt since 1949, where she served as correspondence secretary.
A graduate of Trap Hill High School, class of 1949, she attended Concord College where she received a degree in education. She also held a Master’s Degree in Business Education from Marshall University. Arlene taught at Marsh Fork High and Man Junior High. After resigning from teaching, she became the Postmaster at Bolt, WV until she retired in 1997. She was a member of the National Association of Postmasters, National League of Postmasters, Raleigh County League of Democratic Women and The Degree of Honor.
She was preceded in death by first husband, James Randall Chambers in 1984 and second husband, Walter “Sam” White in 2003, and a brother, A. Alvin Farmer in 2013. Survivors include: daughters, Mrs. J.R. (Robert) Dorton, of Holly Hills; Mrs. Rochelle (Alan) Barnette, of Sophia; Mrs. Raylene (Gilles) Caron of Bolt; six grandchildren: Mrs. Jennifer (Phil) Buchanan; Mrs. Jessica (Mark) Workman, Mrs. Jillian (Tyler) Davis; Joshua Caron, all of Bolt, and Joshua’s fianc, Katie Muovich, of Lester, Aaron (Adrianna) Barnette; Adam Barnette & fianc Liz Heatley, all of Tampa, FL. Great grandchildren: Justine Buchanan, Kylee Davis, Jaxson Workman, Khyler Davis, Abigail Barnette, and baby girl Davis & Alec Barnette, both due in May. A brother, Charles C. (Pat) Farmer of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters: A. Agnes Smith and Annette (Wallace) Carter of Newark, DE.
Sam’s children: Mrs. Debbie (Larry) Keaton of Marshall, VA; Mrs. Karen (Jim) Keaton of Centreville, VA; and Scott White of Coal City; grandchildren, Shane, Michael, Michelle, Krystal, Justin and great grandchildren, Savanna, Noah, Cheyenne, Holly, Garrett and Gabriella.
Funeral services will be conducted at Breckenridge Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dewey Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at the church.
Friends will serve as pallbearers.
